About the Navigation Department

The Navigation Department was established in 1976 at the Institute of Wired and Wireless Telecommunications and was called the Marine Studies Department. The Navigation Department is considered as the only provider that feeds various sectors of the job market operating in the field of Marine and Air transport services. Such uniqueness is not only in the State of Kuwait, but also in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countries. During the last ten years, the department has achieved qualitative leaps and changes in terms of the main areas of the training process, which is the foundation of the Department in translating the ambitions and aspirations of the labor market. In order to achieve the largest return of training, the department has recently approved its programs with one of the prestigious colleges in the marine field, namely, the Australian Marine College, and the Air Traffic Control Program was accredited by the International Organization of Civil Aviation (ICAO).

The Navigation Department is one of the important training pillars and foundations of the navigational movement and activity in Kuwait. it is managed by Kuwaiti national personnel with good competence and skill.

The Department also has the world's first and largest marine navigation and aviation simulator complex, which includes the following simulators and laboratories:

•  Ship Control Room Simulator

•  Connected Tug Simulator linked to ship’s control room

•  Four small simulators connected to the tugboat simulator

•  Global Marine Distress System Simulator, (GMDSS) linked to ship control room

•  Planetarium

•  Control Tower Simulator (for commercial and military aircraft)

•  Flight Simulator - Airbus 320

•  Navigational Chart Laboratory

•  The fishing equipment laboratory, in addition to many other laboratories that will serve the training process.

Training Programs for the Navigation Department

1- Electronic Equipment Maintenance

Job Title: Second Electronics/Equipment Technician

Job Grade at Appointment: General fifth and three bonuses

After the completion of this training program, the trainee will be able to:

•  Test electronic components.

•  Implement testing and maintenance for various electronic circuits.

•  Implement testing and maintenance for the energy sources of electronic equipment.

•  Use troubleshooting techniques and repair electronic equipment.

•  Implement some laboratory applications through specialized computer programs.

    

2- Electronic Exchange Maintenance:

Job Title: Second Telecommunications/ Switching Technician

Job Grade at Appointment: General fifth and three bonuses

After the completion of this training program, the trainee will be able to:

•  Identify common exchanges and systems used in the field of telecommunications.

•  Program exchange systems IP-PABX-VOIP.

•  Test, maintain, trouble shoot, and resolve issues in exchanges, including fault diagnosis and repair.

•  Use, maintain and service power supply units in exchanges.

•  Assemble, operate, and maintain various exchange systems.

 

3- Electronic Security System: (Academic Accreditation by ABET)

Job Title: Second Electronics/Devices Technician

Job Grade at Appointment: General fifth and three bonuses

After the completion of this training program, the trainee will be able to:

•  Read electrical schemes and extensions and points distribution.

•  Install, operate and maintain fire systems and detectors.

•  Install, operate and maintain all types of indoor, outdoor, fixed and mobile cameras as well as recording and documenting devices and vacating them.

•  Install, operate and maintain audio and video alarm systems.

•  Install, operate and maintain following-up the attendance systems (by fingerprint/card).

•  Install, operate and maintain elevators and door control systems.

•  Follow-up central control unit for all security, protection, and alarm systems.

 

4- Control Systems Maintenance and Robotics: (Academic Accreditation by ABET)

Job Title: Second Electronics/Measurement and Control Technician

Job Grade at Appointment: General fifth and three bonuses

After the completion of this training program, the trainee will be able to:

•  Assemble and operate robotics systems.

•  Program robotics systems.

•  Use robotics units to control various electronic circuits.

•  Assemble, operate, and maintain control systems especially used in telecommunication and control centers whether electric / electronic / electromagnetic and multi-purpose center operating in low power sources.

•  Assemble, operate, and maintain some commonly used systems by reading and following maps.

•  Execute some laboratory applications through computer programs for the implementation and analysis of control circuits used by computers

 

5- Operator

Job Title: Operator

Job Grade at Appointment: General fifth with starting salary

After the completion of this training program, the trainee will be able to:

•  Effectively handle emergencies by receiving reports and distress calls from within Kuwait and promptly direct them to the relevant authorities immediately (Fire Department / Ambulance / Traffic Patrol / Coastal Guard).

•  Provide humanitarian assistance and security services.

•  Provide emergency assistance to citizens, residents, and visitors within the country’s jurisdiction.

•  Ensure the accurate and prompt delivery of reports to the relevant authorities.

•  Handle informants by providing a follow-up service for reports, receiving notifications, and processing incoming information.
