About the Computer Department

       The Computer Department is one of the most important and specialized training departments in the Institute which was established in 1977 due to its significant role in the field of information technology by providing national staff to all computer departments in all ministries and institutions in the governmental and private sectors in the country. The department offers five training programs in the field of computer, four of which are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
The department is equipped with modern laboratories which serve the needs of all its specialties such as:
•  Simulators for computer malfunctions, considered the first of its kind in the country.
Laboratories for computer network devices and their setup and configuration, considered the only one of its kind in the State of Kuwait, for networking.
•  Laboratories for maintenance, assembly and disassembly of computer devices, and the process of configuring them to make them suitable for use.
•  Virtualization Laboratories dedicated to main servers, representing one of the latest methods in dealing with servers and computer devices.
•  Laboratories equipped with Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) system.  

Training Programs for the Computer Department

The Computer Department offers four training programs in the field of computer Science:

1- Computer Maintenance Technology (Academic Accreditation by ABET)

Job Title: Second Computer/Maintenance Technician

Job Grade at Appointment: General Fifth and Three Bonuses

After the completion of this training program, the trainee will be able to:

•  Use hardware repairing tools and software in computer.

•  Maintain computers and their accessories.

•  Install operational systems and application programs.

•  Unpack and install the computer.

•  Connect the computer to the network.

•  Develop the computer.

•  Apply safety and security measures. 

    

2- Computer Networks Technology (Academic Accreditation by ABET)

Job Title: Second Computer/Systems Technician

Job Grade at Appointment: General fifth and three bonuses

After the completion of this training program, the trainee will be able to:

•  Manage and maintain wired and wireless computer networks.

•  Detect and repair any breakdowns in computer and networks.

•  Use multiple operating systems including Linux and Microsoft Server Windows.

•  Apply safety and security measures when dealing with devices related to computers’ networks.

•  Install cables and equipment of the networks.

•  Protect and preserve the networks security.

 

3- Computer Operation Technology (Academic Accreditation by ABET)

Job Title: Computer Operator Assistant

Job Grade at Appointment: General fifth with starting salary

After the completion of this training program, the trainee will be able to:

•  Use different computer operating systems.

•  Operating the computers and networks and monitor them efficiently.

•  Repair main malfunctions in the computers and peripherals.

•  Manage the computer networks.

•  Use basic skills for computer and multimedia applications.

•  Install operating systems and computer applications.

 

4- Computer Operation Technology (Academic Accreditation by ABET)

Job Title: Assistant Software Programmer

Job Grade at Appointment: General fifth with starting salary

After the completion of this training program, the trainee will be able to:

•  Design and run computer programs by using key programming languages.

•  Design, create and maintain the database systems.

•  Design and program web pages.

•  Use different multimedia tools.

•  Use basic skills of computer applications.

•  Contribute to analyze various systems and projects.

 

5- Information Security

Job Title: Second Computer/Systems Technician

Job Grade at Appointment: General fifth and three bonuses

After the completion of this training program, the trainee will be able to:

•  Identify the fundamental principles of information security, cybercrimes, and dealing with ethical and professional issues in information security.

•  Inspect networks and electronic services, identify various risks, and implement appropriate solutions.

•  Design and plan for incidents, manage disasters, and utilize technologies and networks defense systems.

•  Train on the use of modern technologies and network defense systems.

•  Inspect and provide necessary protection for websites and internet applications.

Fields of Work for Graduates and Potential Beneficiaries

Graduates of the department work in various government establishments, including ministries, institutions, governmental authorities, and in the oil sector.  In addition, the computer department graduate can work in all private sector companies, such as telecommunications companies and banks.
